The Story Behind Jade Pillow
Happy New Year everyone! I decided to take this time to better introduce my brand; and give a bit more background context on the meaning behind the name “Jade Pillow” and why I chose it, as I get this question from people quite often.
In all honestly, it started by me just going through the English names of acupuncture points and seeing if any of them sounded pretty and evolved into something much more than that.
There is an acupuncture point at the back of the skull called “Jade Pillow” or “Yu Zhen” or Urinary Bladder 9.
As I said before, initially I just decided it sounded pretty so I went with it. Then I started looking more into the point and found it’s in importance in not only acupuncture, but qigong as well. In qigong, it is very important to have your Jade Pillow Gate opened as to allow the Qi to flow freely up to the head and connect our Ren and Du meridians. The Ren meridian runs down the front of the body and plays a massive role in fertility as well as respiratory and digestive issues. The Du meridian runs down the back of the body and treats back issues, helps with brain and mental clarity, and overall emotional balance among many other uses. Both of these meridians either start at or end on the head, so it is important to ensure their Qi can flow smoothly and freely.
Long story short, the Jade Pillow Gate is very important in mind-body-spirit connection which is crucial in full body healing. A balance of these three things brings health and harmony within our bodies which is the overall goal in Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture.
Along with the clinical uses and relevance it has within the context of acupuncture and qigoing, the term Jade Pillow, in my opinion, embodies a very tranquil and healing feeling.
When you think of jade what color do you think of? Probably a nice calming green that brings inner peace. That was also a large factor in choosing this for my brand as green is a great visual representation of healing (and also it just happens to be my favorite color).
Furthermore, jade stone has some important symbolism in Chinese culture specifically. It is thought to have the power to bring health and good fortune, while also warding off evil and bad luck. The metaphysical properties include calming the mind, riding negative thoughts, and relieving stress and anxiety.
Overall, this name felt like it embodied much more than just sounding good, and I felt it represented everything I want my acupuncture practice to be and how I want my patients to feel upon leaving the treatment room.
Thank you for taking the time to read about something so important to me, let me be your “Jade Pillow.” I’m so looking forward to seeing you in my treatment room.
